MEGADETH Mainman Checks In From South America

April 22, 2010

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:

"I want to thank the band MYSTICA GIRLS from Mexico for the amazing gift of blue orchids, the promoter and his staff, and my minders from Mexico.

"This has been our best and biggest trip there.

"To give you an idea, when we played with MÖTLEY CRÜE several years ago, we sold (they did since they were the headliners) about 6,000 tickets, and the time we went with JUDAS PRIEST and TESTAMENT it was the same; around 6,000 tickets. The only difference was that Nikki [Sixx, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist] had a disagreement with some of our fans, decided to visit the fans in the audience and the ensuing chaos was unforeseeable. The fans tore the seats up, lit them on fire, threw them at MÖTLEY CRÜE and chanted 'Megadeth' so loud that the CRÜE left the stage. This time, however, we had around 14,000+ Droogies and they tore the roof off of the place.

"I want to clear something up: when I said we just finished the States and you guys sang it better than the audiences in America and they speak English, it wasn't a dig on my fellow countrymen and women. It was a statement on how quickly and how powerfully the audience grasped what I wanted to do.

"You see, 'Head Crusher' is the first song that Shawn Drover [MEGADETH drummer] wrote with me for MEGS and we decided in order to give it more appeal that we would encourage a sing-along part with the audience.

"Now some of the shows were obvious that the fans hadn't heard the song, and y'all know what I believe would be the reason that they didn't 'hear' it, but that is another box of tissues.

"I have to assure you that from my position and singing with audience, sometimes it took three, four, and maybe even more tries to get the audience to sing along good enough to start the song.

"When I did this in Mexico it was unnecessary to try it a second time; the audience totally grasped what I was trying to do, and did it with me, and did it very, very well. In fact, Tuesday night in Recife, Brazil it was another excellent concert, with the fans singing along to every song.

"When we did 'Head Crusher', the Brazilian fans were actually as good as our Mexican fans, but I gotta tell you, our world-famous part of 'Symphony Of Destruction', which was started by our most awesome and fantastic fans in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and it has been adopted around the world. So far, nothing has compared to Mexico City's performance of the crowd singing 'Symphony Of Destruction' and 'Megadeth, Megadeth, Aguante Megadeth!' was louder than we were.

"I really look forward to finishing this off strong and comparing which country is the loudest.

"On another really 'proud Dad' moment, I talked to Electra [Dave's daughter] and she is on her school football team, and like I said, she scored three goals and it is ironic that I am in one of the best soccer continents in the world, and I get a report like this!

"What a proud Dad I am."
